AARON HERNANDEZ – GUILTY
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of first-degree murder earlier today. Hernandez will receive the mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole and will die behind bars. The jury reached the guilty verdict despite the prosecution being unable to produce a murder weapon, an eye-witness, or a credible motive.
I will never understand the willingness one has to take the life of another human being. I could never comprehend what goes on in their brain. I also will never understand why someone would put their own future in jeopardy by committing such crimes. Hernandez had signed a $40 million dollar contract with the Patriots. Quickly establishing himself as one of the top receiving threats in the NFL, he was financially set for life before he reached the age of twenty-five. How could anyone, with only one life on this earth, choose to commit an act that could put you in jeopardy of spending that life behind bars? How could he not look at his millions and realize that life is great just the way it is?
Now twenty-five, Hernandez will live the remainder of his life in a cold cell. No millions. No football. No parties. No girls. No family. Absolutely nothing. You would think that people who were selfish enough to consider taking another person’s life away would be selfish enough to not risk their own well-being.
As I watched the verdict on ESPN, it was hard not to feel sorry for Hernandez’s mother. She wept in the court room and now has to live the rest of her life knowing that she gave birth to a murderer. She will wonder every day if she did something wrong in raising Aaron that caused him to turn out this way. It is sad, because people are responsible for their own actions, and this woman will probably be blaming herself for the mistakes of her son. Will she feel ashamed in public? Will she shut herself off from society? Criminals do not consider what affect their poor actions have on their own famil
I’m glad the family of Odin Lloyd got their justice. Nothing will replace their loss or all the years they will miss out on with Odin if Hernandez didn’t take his life. I hope they can find a little bit of closure, knowing that the villain will pay. It is not fair that this man didn’t get to finish living his life. I hope Hernandez has to deal with that every day.
